Actress Taryn Manning was arrested for assault early Thursday morning.

The 33-year-old actress reportedly kicked and punched her 23-year-old makeup artist in her room at New York City's Dream Downtown hotel.

According to TMZ, the actress was picked by police sometime after 5 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 11 and was later charged with assault. She has reportedly hired famous criminal defense attorney Joe Tacopina.

Tacopina is best known for defending Joran Van der Sloot, the Dutch man suspected in the 2005 disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba. He is currently in jail for the murder of a 21-year-old in Peru. Tacopina was also part of Michael Jackson's defense team in his controversial child molestation case. He helped Jackson, who was found not guilty on all counts, win the case.

Manning has appeared in several movies including "8 Mile," "Crazy/Beautiful," "Hustle and Flow" and most recently, "Sons of Anarchy" and "Hawaii Five-O."  She also designs clothes and records music. The actress released a dance single, "Send Me Your Love," and recorded a song for the "8 Mile" soundtrack.

The Dream Hotel is also where Lindsay Lohan has had several incidents as of late. The celebrity hotspot is where the former Disney star reportedly hit a pedestrian with a Porsche and where she and her mother reportedly hung out until 4:30 am before their fight in a limo drive to Long Island last weekend.
