In the days following the shocking election, many Americans have been feeling pretty bummed out, disheartened, disappointed and angry. Protests have erupted across cities on both coasts, throughout New York and California and most recently, Portland. Things have never quite looked so bleak.

Mom Margot Gerster was echoing that very same sentiment as her and her 13-month-old daughter took a hike around Chappaqua, N.Y. To their (OK, Margot's) surprise, they ran into the very person that could lift their spirits: Hillary Clinton.

"I take my daughter hiking almost every day, so you don't expect to run into Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton," Margot says in her photo with the former presidential candidate.

While the photo of Margot, her daughter, Hillary and her dog Maisie might seem like a small gesture, it definitely helped slightly lighten the mood of a torn nation.
