Brad Pitt along with director James Gray announce they will start filming sci-fi movie "Ad Astra" this summer.

According to Screen Rant, director James Gray will be working hand-in-hand with Brad Pitt for his newest sci-fi movie entitled "Ad Astra."

In this movie, Pitt will play the role of an astronaut who takes off to the planet Neptune to look for clues about his father who vanished in the course of a similar mission 20 years before.

Aside from that piece of information, there hasn't been a ton of information divulged about the film. Nevertheless, director Gray spoke to a news media outlet and he confirmed that he and Pitt will start to work on the project in July of 2017. Gray also uttered some of his fears about his upcoming movie with Pitt.

"Yes, yes, and yes. I'm terrified by it. The science-fiction genre is so tricky because there are elements of fantasy usually involved, and there are also fantastical elements. What I'm trying to do is the most realistic depiction of space travel that's been put in a movie and to basically say, 'Space is awfully hostile to us.' It's kind of a Heart of Darkness story about traveling to the outer edge of our solar system. I have a lot of hopes for it but it is certainly ambitious... It starts shooting July 17th, so not too far away. I'm filled with terror, but that's fine," Gray stated during the interview.

Furthermore, Collider has learned that "As Astra" also took years of courtship between Pitt and Gray, since the two have been trying to work collaboratively for quite some time now. It can be recalled that Pitt was aiming to star in "Lost City of Z" but he had to back out. Nevertheless, he is still part of the movie as he was involved as a producer.

Pitt and Gray were also developing "The Grey Man" as an impending project together, but then the "Ad Astra" will be the first time the former with work with the latter in front of the camera. Moreover, the media outlet also mentioned that the film is expected to hit big screens next year.
