Whoopi Goldberg said what a ton of fans was thinking when she checked comedienne and actress Mo’Nique during Mo’Nique’s appearance on The View earlier this week. Meanwhile, Mo’Nique blasted radio host Charlamagne.

Whoopi Goldberg Sets Mo'Nique Straight?

Mo’Nique’s recent plea for fans to boycott Netflix became a topic of conversation during her appearance on the daytime talk show. Mo’Nique accused the streaming service of gender discrimination when it offered Amy Schumer $11 million and Chris Rock $20 million to do a comedy special. Mo’Nique was offered $500,000.

Interestingly enough, Mo’Nique can’t seem to stay out of the headlines. She reportedly owes the IRS $560,625.72 in taxes. She was accused of owing $389,904.98 for 2013 and 2014 and $170,720.74 for the year 2015. Most fans pointed out that her Netflix deal, as much as she didn’t like it, could have helped close that gap.

On The View, Joy Behar mentioned accusations against Mo’Nique that she was known for being hard to work with. Mo’Nique indicated those rumors came from her lead role in the film Precious. She said that she had done all she agreed to when Lee Daniels, Oprah Winfrey, and Tyler Perry requested Mo’Nique to promote the film at the Cannes Film Festival. Mo’Nique proudly said she refused to do it because the promotion wasn’t in her contract.

Mo’Nique said that was the reason she feels like she is blackballed in Hollywood. Goldberg then stated her thoughts.

“I’m going to stop you because, contractually, when you make a movie, regardless of who you sign the deal with, your job is to go and promote said movie,” said Goldberg.

She then added that had Mo’Nique called her, she could have “schooled” her on what to do. The segment ended with both Mo’Nique maintained that she was the victim while Goldberg gave up on trying to convince her otherwise.

Charlamagne Up Next

Also in Mo’Nique news, she has responded to Charlamagne after he titled her Donkey of the Day amid the Netflix drama. Charlamagne is a host of Power 105.1’s popular The Breakfast Club morning radio show.

Mo’Nique stopped by the show to respond. She opted for using Charlamagne’s real name, Lenard, in her clap back. She pushed him to explain why she was labeled the Donkey of the Day on the show. She said Charlamagne’s decision to do that was a stab at all Black women who attempt to stand up for themselves.

Charlamagne justified the decision and said that while her argument was valid in the Netflix situation, she used to push her own agenda because she was dealing with something personal.

He then called it an “isolated situation” when Mo’Nique used Viola Davis’s recent demand for equal pay as an example.

She urged him to learn and know his history as she said he has made attempts “to be the guru of black culture…”
