With a whopping 15 titles produced in the wildly popular God Of War video game series, it was almost inevitable that the next step would be some sort of live-action adaptation. Worry not, the prophecy is true. Much the way titles such as Halo got the green light for on Paramount+, Amazon Prime Video is hoping to land it as a series.

According to Deadline, the series will be created by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby of The Expanse and Rafe Judkins who was the executive producer/showrunner of The Wheel of Time

The plot of the games and eventual show revolves around a former Spartan named Kratos who seeks revenge against the God of War, Ares, who controls Kratos to kill his family. After exacting his vengeance and gaining god-like powers, he spends his life trying to find redemption and changing his destiny. It isn't yet clear which part of the timeline of the games the plot will follow, if not all of them, given the vast world building of the series.

Video game films haven't always had the best track record, what with the Mortal Kombat franchise, Resident Evil, and lest we forget, the dreaded Super Mario Bros. The Movie, which is considered the first and most universally despised adaptation of a property of all the games brought to the big screen.

Maybe long form storytelling is the key to undoing the stain left by those previous. With the rich and sprawling narrative of God of War and Halo, taking time to flesh out characters and story for the uninitiated could be the saving grace for these properties, ushering a new era of love for live-action video game adaptation.
