It's amazing what a dad will do to spend time with their son and the new trailer for I Love My Dad takes it to a hilariously disturbing extreme.

Based on writer/director/star James Morosini's true story of being catfished by his own father, the film stars Patton Oswalt as Chuck, a father who is desperate to reconnect with his estranged son Franklin (Morosini) after he cut his dad out of his life after an argument. In an attempt to reconnect, Chuck poses as a beautiful woman in order to speak to Franklin and takes the ruse a little too far.

I Love My Dad co-stars Rel Howery (Free Guy), Claudia Sulewski, Amy Landecker (Transparent), and Saturday Night Live alum Rachel Dratch.

James Monosini said this about the film to Deadline:

"A version of [I Love My Dad] actually happened to me. My dad and I got into a big fight and I decided to just cut him off of social media and everything else. I got home one day and this really pretty girl sent me a friend request online, I was very excited and this story was born."

The comedy has been doing well on the film festival circuit scoring the Audience Award for Narrative Feature at the Chicago Critics Film Festival, Best Feature Film at the Hill Country Film Festival, the Grand Jury Prize for Narrative Feature, and the Narrative Feature Competition Audience Award at SXSW.

The director hyped the film with this sweetly funny sentiment:

"In honor of Father's Day, here's a teaser for my upcoming film, I Love My Dad. Making something so personal has been an incredible journey and I can't wait for you to see it this August. I hope it makes you laugh, I hope it makes you cry, and most importantly I hope my dad never catfishes me again."

I Love My Dad will hit theaters on August 5 and will begin streaming on August 12.
