The events after Princess Diana's death showed how much the public loved the Princess of Wales.

It has been decades since the tragic car accident claimed Princess Diana's life. On Aug. 31, 1997, the then-36-year-old royal got involved in a horrific car crash at the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris that led to her death.

As the People's Princess, millions of people mourned over her untimely passing. Amid the heartbreak, a sudden "revolution" caused the monarchy to worry.

In a new revelation shared during the new episode of "The Firm: Blood, Lies and Royal Succession" podcast, founder of the British Monarchist Society Thomas-Mace-Archer-Mills said that Princess Diana's death caused the royal family to face the biggest existential crisis yet since the infamous abdication in 1936.

"That was really something. Because people wanted to say the Queen was just horrible. People were aghast at her," the contributor said during the podcast.

The revolution became an angry response to Queen Elizabeth II's reaction to the royal's death. It was reported that the monarch was in Balmoral and chose to stay silent while crowds gathered outside Buckingham Palace.

Queen Elizabeth II Committed Big Mistake After Princess Diana's Death

Author of "Royal Fever," Cele Otnes, said that the monarch's refusal to return to London to honor Princess Diana was a huge mistake.

"She'd been clean since 1953. The royal family acted as if they had blinders on and did not consider what the public needed. The public wanted to share the grief with the family. They wanted to be able to connect. And the Queen did not give them a mechanism to connect," she continued.

With the Queen's action, Princess Diana's supporters thought that she was cold and disrespectful toward the Princess of Wales.

The supporters got more enraged as Buckingham Palace did not fly the Union flag at half-mast to honor the royal princess and her life.

The event then made people look at the royal family as cold-hearted people. Due to the different lapses, the monarchy almost lost its power and the public's trust. They also questioned Queen Elizabeth II's decisions as no controversy should have occurred if the simple things were done rightfully.

Former butler to Prince Charles, Grant Harrold, disclosed that the anger became a real threat to the royal family in the end as people urged to get rid of the monarchy.

In the end, people moved forward but have been continuously paying tributes to Princess Diana during her death anniversary.
