Out of all the guest hosts who appeared on "The Wendy Williams Show," Sherri Shepherd managed to become the number 1 candidate to lead a new program.

The past months have been tough for Williams as she dealt with health and career issues. As she ultimately lost her program's slot to Shepherd, it was revealed why the guest host eventually scored a chance to lead her own show.

The Hollywood Reporter quoted a statement by Debmar-Mercury's executive VP of programming Alexandra Jewett. She said that Shepherd immediately blew everyone away when she started hosting the show.

"We're always looking to see who's out there and what they can bring to the table, and it was apparent from day one that Sherri had something special," she continued.

Shepherd was also hailed as the new talk show host due to the program ratings. At that same time, she joined the list of potential hosts when it became clear that Williams would not return to the show.

This resonated with what Debmar-Mercury co-presidents Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein said about the new host being the best fit. They reportedly asked themselves who could be the best person to do the hosting in her or his own style.

After seeing Shepherd, they realized how she did a great job in doing the Williams' format. With that, they believed she could do more.

Shepherd will finally debut her show, "Sherri," on September 12. Even before she starts her stint, the executives already know she could do better since "she's great at it."

Aside from Shepherd, Michael Rapaport, Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Bevy Smith, and Terrence J also hosted "The Wendy Williams Show."

Wendy Williams Not Supporting Sherri Shepherd

Despite the thorough process of selecting the new host, Williams has since proclaimed she would not support her replacement.

The embattled host told Fat Joe that she never expected to be scrapped as she always wanted to return. With her ousting, she told the public that she would not watch "SHERRI" since Shepherd's works are not her thing.

Meanwhile, Shepherd offered a kind response through Instagram Live and said that Williams' comments were okay. Instead of hitting back, she asked everyone to pray for her as she had been enduring heartbreaking health issues.

Williams officially lost his show due to her absences amid her Graves' disease diagnosis.
