As Americans were preparing to celebrate Easter, the Biden Administration made an announcement that would spark controversy, regarding a change to the national holiday.

The proclamation of "Transgender Day of Visibility" was officially announced by the White House on March 29, in an open letter signed by current president Joe Biden.

The announcement opens by acknowledging the "extraordinary courage and contributions of transgender Americans", stating that in America all people are "created equal" and "treated equally" throughout their lives.

"My Administration is working to stop the bullying and harassment of transgender children and their families," the website states, highlighting a newfound mental health support line dedicated to emergency mental health services.

"Any LGBTQI+ young person in need can call "988" and press "3" to speak with a counselor trained to support them," the site states.

"There is much more to do. I continue to call on the Congress to pass the Equality Act, to codify civil rights protections for all LGBTQI+ Americans," Biden, 81, rallied.

"NOW, THEREFORE, I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim March 31, 2024, as Transgender Day of Visibility."

Despite the milestone, presidential candidate Donald Trump and the republican camp have pushed back. Press secretary of Trump's campaign, Karoline Leavitt, responded citing Biden's alleged "years-long assault on the Christian faith."

"We call on Joe Biden's failing campaign and White House to issue an apology to the millions of Catholics and Christians across America who believe tomorrow is for one celebration only — the resurrection of Jesus Christ," she stated per the Associated Press

It's no surprise republican nominee Trump, 77, disagrees with the monumental move, claiming that if he is reelected he would "punish doctors who provide gender-affirming care to minors," per the Hill
