Marlon Wayans is revealing how a heartfelt promise to his late father helped bring the Wayans brothers back together for a major Hollywood reunion in the upcoming "Scary Movie" reboot.

In a recent interview with Variety published on May 25, Marlon Wayans shared that the idea of reuniting the family came during an emotional moment with his father, Howell Wayans, who was hospitalized before his death in 2023.

"My father was in the hospital for a few weeks before he passed, and in one of our final conversations, he said, 'I think you and your brothers should work together again,'" Marlon recalled.

According to People, he said his father did not just suggest it once—he pushed the idea with love and urgency, telling the family that their bond created something special.

"You guys make magic together," Howell reportedly told his sons. "I think you should do it."

The most powerful moment, Marlon said, came when his father made a direct request. "Do it for me," he recalled him saying.

Marlon explained that he immediately agreed and shook his father's hand, promising he would make it happen. That promise eventually became the foundation for bringing the Wayans brothers back into the "Scary Movie" franchise years after they last worked on it together.

Marlon Wayans Honors Late Father

The reunion includes Marlon and his brothers Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans, along with longtime collaborators on the reboot set to hit theaters on June 5. The new film marks the first time the family has returned to the franchise since "Scary Movie 2" in 2001.

Marlon said the comeback feels personal, not just professional, because it honors both their father's wish and their shared history.

"This is a return back to the franchise we all created," he said. "This isn't Scary Movie 6; this is a reboot."

Marlon also reflected on how difficult it has been for the siblings to stay united in Hollywood over the years. He joked about the challenges of keeping multiple creative careers aligned, comparing it to other famous music groups that struggled with unity, Yahoo reported.

Despite the challenges, he said the reunion shows what their father always believed—that their best work happens when they come together.

Marlon said the promise he made to his father still guides him today, calling it something that helped him feel "complete" after years of loss and change.
