Russell T Davies Calls Gwyneth Paltrow ‘Disgraceful Human Being’ Over Sex Scenes and Intimacy Coordinator Controversy

Gwyneth Paltrow is now at the center of a debate in Hollywood about the need for intimacy coordinators on film or TV sets. The issue sparked a heated debate after the Oscar-winning actress revealed she asked for an intimacy coordinator to be removed while filming intimate scenes with Timothée Chalamet for her new movie, "Marty Supreme".
Radar Online reported that British screenwriter and producer Russell T Davies, the creator of popular shows such as "Queer as Folk" and "It's a Sin", has criticized stars such as Gwyneth Paltrow for challenging the role of intimacy coordinators.
At 63 years old, Davies said that these actors were disgraceful human beings who misused their privileged positions. Davies defended intimacy coordinators as essential for protecting actors, especially those without significant clout on set.
"They have so much show power and so much privilege, and they have no idea what it is like to be a jobbing actor with no power on a set. Shame on them," Davies said.
Paltrow's comments last year about feeling stifled by the choreography required for intimate scenes ignited the debate. She said, "I was like, 'Girl, I'm from the era where you get naked, you get in bed, the camera's on." She expressed concern that younger actors might lose spontaneity due to the structured nature of modern intimacy protocols.
Several Hollywood veterans have weighed in on the issue with mixed views. The actress Kim Basinger was in agreement with the views of Gwyneth Paltrow. In an interview, she remembered her work on the erotic drama "9½ Weeks" and wondered why other people were present while shooting intimate scenes, as per AOL.
Actor Sean Bean voiced his concern that such people could spoil the spontaneity of the performance.
On the other hand, the recipient of the Academy Award, Kate Winslet, actively supports such specialists. She stressed the safety that intimacy coordinators ensure in love scenes.
In an interview conducted in 2024, Kate Winslet said, "I would have benefited from an intimacy coordinator every single time I had to do a love scene or be partially naked or even a kissing scene."
According to an insider in the film industry, young actors perceive intimacy coordinators as similar to stuntmen – people without whom shooting is impossible due to the boundaries established.
As seen from the above, there is currently a heated debate around this problem, which touches upon the traditional approach to acting and the need for additional specialists introduced after the emergence of the #MeToo campaign.
