Everyone's favorite web-slinger may not be scheduled for an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but The Amazing Spider-Man's Venom will be joining forces with the Guardians of the Galaxy on the glossy pages of the comic book realm.

With Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Sony's Amazing Spider-Man 2 all headed to theaters this summer, Marvel's execs have a few tricks up their sleeves. As it turns out, 2014's Free Comic Book Day will feature a Guardians/Spidey crossover event.

"The Guardians are about to welcome two new members - including Captain Marvel and one Mystery Marvel Superstar you'd never expect to see with the Guardians of the Galaxy!" Marvel told Newsarama. 'And this mysterious character is about to set off a chain reaction that takes our heroes to the farthest reaches of space - on a collision course with one of the deadliest threats in the cosmos!"

The Brian Bendis scripted, Nick Bradshaw illustrated comic is expected to help hype the new films, much like the upcoming X-Men graphic novel will as it helps draw together classic comic aficionados and recent fans of superhero films in the run-up to the premiere of X-Men: Days of Future Past.

"With Nick joining the all-star creative of Brian and Sara Pichelli, Guardians of the Galaxy promises to be THE book that Marvel readers will be talking about all the way through to the opening of their movie in August," said Marvel's Senior Editor, Stephen Wacker, according to Classicalite. "And with two new members causing all sorts of problems, the galaxy's least likely super hero team is going to find itself in a whole mess of trouble."
