Sarah Michelle Gellar has just brought a new bundle of joy into the word.

The actress, 35, gave birth this week in Los Angeles to a baby boy, her second child with her husband, 36-year-old Freddie Prinze Jr.

"Sarah Michelle and Freddie Prinze, Jr. are thrilled to announce that they welcomed a baby son into the world this past week," a spokesperson for Gellar told Us Magazine.

The couple is already mother and father to a daughter, Charlotte Grace, who turned three years old earlier this month.

"Mother and baby are doing great," Gellar's representative said. "And Charlotte is VERY excited to be a big sister."

Daughter Charlotte was born in September 2009, seven years after Gellar and Prinze got married in Mexico on Sept. 1, 2002.

The couple first met on the set of the 1997 horror film "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and began dating three years later in 2000.

Gellar and Prinze have appeared in two other films together, both big-screen adaptations of the Scooby Doo franchise. The pair starred in "Scooby Doo" in 2002 and its sequel, "Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed" in 2004.

Though Hollywood is what brought the couple together, these days family life takes a priority over the entertainment industry, according to a friend.

"They still have date nights all the time and have a normal life," an insider said. "They both came of age in Hollywood and love working, but their home life is more important to them."

Gellar had been busy starring in the CW drama "Ringer" before its cancellation was announced in May of this year. But Gellar told Us Magazine that Prinze cherished the time he got to spend alone with his daughter while she was on set.

"He loves it. We fight over who gets to stay home," Gellar said. "You'd think it would be the opposite, that the parents would be like, 'No, I'll go to work!' but he's like, 'You stayed home for two years! It's my turn!'"
