Queen Elizabeth II has been laid to rest at St. George's Chapel in Windsor Castle after the emotional State Funeral on Monday.

The monarch, who died at the age of 96, received heartfelt tributes from the royal family and fans before her coffin was lowered into the Royal Vault where Prince Philip's remains are stored.

The place serves as the resting place of past monarchs, but will it be her final resting place?

The Telegraph reported when Prince Philip died that the Duke of Edinburgh would be permanently placed at King George VI's memorial chapel alongside Queen Elizabeth II's body.

Currently, the chapel holds the remains of Queen Elizabeth II's family - King George VI, Queen Mother, and Princess Margaret.

Before Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, and other royal members, George III became the first royal to be held in the vault after his death in 1820. George IV and William IV were also interred in it when they died.

In 1475, King Edward IV started the building and waited 50 years before it was completed. King Henry VIII continued the construction during his reign.

Aside from the remains, the chapel also holds Edward III's sword, one of the items retrieved from the chapel during the English Civil War.

Queen Elizabeth II's Funeral Was Historic

After the 11-day service to honor Queen Elizabeth II's legacy and life, the world bid a final farewell to her on Monday.

The Queen died at the age of 96, hours after her doctors revealed she was not in a good state. Following her passing, she became Britain's longest-reigning monarch as she began serving her people in 1952. She was still able to celebrate her Platinum Jubilee earlier this year, marking her 70 years and nearly four months on the throne.

She surpassed the record set by her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, who ruled for 63 years, seven months, and two days.

Queen Elizabeth II successfully had 21,000 engagements and 112 state visits. She also gave royal assent to 4,000 pieces of legislation.

During her reign, she also hosted 180 garden parties at Buckingham Palace, welcoming 1.5 million people to her place. She also set a record when she became the first British monarch to visit China.
