Jim Carrey's drawn-out legal battle over the death of his former girlfriend, Cathriona White, more than two years ago, will no longer be ending in a court trial. The lawsuit filed against the actor has now been reportedly dismissed.

In September 2015, White was reportedly found dead from a prescription overdose. White's mother, Brigid Sweetman, and her estranged husband, Mark Burton, accused Carrey of illegally obtaining prescription drugs for her that led to her death.

Following her death, both Sweetman and Burton decided to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the actor.

However, in September 2017, Carrey decided to file a countersuit against White's family. Carrey's attorneys believed that it was nothing more than an attempt to exploit the famous actor.

In addition to being accused of providing White with illegal drugs, Sweetman and Burton threatened to go to the press with allegations that Carrey gave White multiple STDs, which allegedly caused her mental distress.

The Dumb and Dumber star confirmed that White did receive prescriptions but they were for her breast augmentation corrective surgery. As for the STD claims, Carrey's attorney, Raymond Boucher, proved that the STD accusations were false as Burton provided test results from White that appeared to be clean.

Carrey's Cleared

The former In Living Color star was originally scheduled to go to trial in April 2018.  However E! News confirmed that all claims filed against him have been dismissed and he will no longer go to trial. According to Carrey's publicist, the actor is happy to have the dispute settled and appreciates the support.

Carrey and White were linked in 2012 and had been on and off until she passed away in 2015. White was a hair and makeup artist from County Tipperary, Ireland. She worked with celebrities such as David Hasselhoff and Lyndie Greenwood.

Shortly after the tragic news, Carrey released a statement stating that he was deeply saddened about White's passing.

"I am shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of my sweet Cathriona. She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparked. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt," Carrey said
